Renew REAP Before Holidays

At this point, it appears that the New Mexico Regional Education Applicant Program (NMREAP) will not be funded by the Public Education Department for calendar year 2005. Due to a reduction in funding revenue for the Transition to Teaching (T2T) grant, the short-lived collaboration between NMREAP and T2T will end effective December 31, 2004. Consequently, NMREAP will reinstitute its fee for service effective January 1, 2005. To ensure that there is no interruption in NMREAP access, school districts and charter schools are encouraged to renew their NMREAP membership prior to the winter holidays. If your district did not receive a renewal notice, please contact Ruben Mirabal at (505) 344-5470, or at rmirabal@nmedu.org.

A combination total of 85 school districts and charter schools availed themselves of NMREAP membership in 2004 as a result of the NMREAP/T2T collaboration. During this time, the number of teacher applicants on the NMREAP system exceeded 1300! Many districts and charter schools were able to staff vacancies as a result of the extensive applicant pool, or as a result of responses to job vacancies that were posted on NMREAP. The number of staffing successes is a clear indication of how effective NMREAP has proven to be for districts throughout New Mexico.
